Join us for the 6th edition of the Gozo Food Festival on the 12th & 13th of July 2024

Malta's most sought-after food event also holds a Gozo Special Edition at Xewkija. Over 15,000 patrons flocked to Xewkija during the 2023 edition for two nights of food and fun.

 

Food stands host culinary delicacies from all over the world. It’s a free street food festival with a focus on inclusivity. Same place, different tastes. Taste authentic Asian cuisines, fresh Mediterranean delights, the best of Europe, all the way to South America, and genuine Gozitan delicacies.

 

A perfect night to discover new tastes, brewery stands, and special wines for a tasting experience, all rhythmed by a special set of live musicians right beneath the majestic Xewkija Parish church. Dessert lovers will also not be disappointed with an overwhelming choice of sweets and home-made ice creams, to name just a few.

The Gozo Special Edition is organised with the support of the Ministry for Gozo, ECO Gozo and the Xewkija Local Council

ARRIVING AT XEWKIJA

ARRIVING BY BUS

 

The Malta Public Transport and other operators will be offering a shuttle service from the Mgarr Ferry Terminal to the Xewkija and back from 17:45 till 24:00.

Vapur is the name of the bus stop near the Mgarr ferry terminal and D’Amato is the name of the bus stop in San Bert Street, Xewkija.

Xewkija, which is situated between Għajnsielem and the main town, Victoria, is the oldest village in Gozo. It became the first parish outside Victoria on 27 November 1678.

The name is derived from the Arabic word "Shawk", meaning "thistles" or "thorns". Xewkija is famous for its church, The Rotunda of Xewkija, which is dedicated to St. John the Baptist was built from Maltese stone by local masons and craftsmen. It is the largest in Gozo and its dome dominates the village. 

FERRY TO GOZO

 

One can reach Gozo using Gozo Channel which departs from Cirkewwa throughout the day and offers transit service for both persons and vehciles. Gozo High Speed is another ferry service to Gozo offer a fast ferry service from Valletta to Mgarr Harbour.
